Kathleen Donovan graduated from Catholic University of America School of Nursing (1983) with a BSN. After graduating she worked on an adult medical/surgical floor for two years and then worked in adult ICU/CCU. In 1987, Kathleen applied for a NICU position at Georgetown University Hospital. At GUH she found her passion in nursing and gained a great deal of knowledge on caring for premies and NICU infants. Through the lactation program at GUH, headed by Vergie Hughes, Kathleen became very interested in obtaining her IBCLC. It was not until after starting and raising her own family that she received her IBCLC (2006).
Kathleen currently works at HCA Reston Hospital in Northern Virginia in their Mother/Baby department. She was recently promoted to manager of Lactation Services. She works PRN in the NICU and newborn nursery. Kathleen holds a Clinical IV position and is the representative for the unit on the Clinical Ladder Committee, Standards Committee, Research Committee and Nursing Congress. Kathleen teaches a prenatal breastfeeding class once a month and a discharge class to post partum couples. The discharge class covers post partum care for the mother, infant care and breastfeeding.
Kathleen is a timer and reviewer of educational modules for ILCA and ibreastfeeding.com. She is a member of ILCA and the Academy of Neonatal Nurses. Kathleen lives with her husband Charles and two daughters. She is currently enrolled in Walden University School of Nursing MSN program. Kathleen is a new instructor for Lactation Education Resources and we welcome her to our roster of excellent instructors.
Kathleen is available for speaking engagements and can be reached at 703-728-9610 or at candkdonovan(at)verizon.net
